It seems insane to take on a bad debt in your name from someone who has a track record of not paying their dues. Credit scores are there to separate the good payers from the bad and it’s bad payers that are penalised with high APR’s because they’re high risk.

Yes you can do this.

My Wife and I have done this back and forth for each other several times in the past.

If you were married the answer would be yes. Since you have different last names, I’m not sure that the credit card company would allow it. It would be best to ask since it involves someone taking on your debt who is not yet related to you.

Yes you can. If they will not allow this do a check transfer. Now days credit card companies give you blank checks that you can write to whoever for what ever. I have a credit card with a large credit line and I did this with 0% interst until April 2008 or 2.9% interest for life. I chose the 0% interest because if I dont have it paid off buy April I will just transfer it to another credit card that offers the same thing. Just call the credit card companies and see what they offer. Bank of America, Discover and Chase are three that I know of that offer this type of service.

From what I know, No! Your card would have to be in his name in order for that to happen. They won’t let him transfer someonelses creditcard balance onto his. However, If you were a joint holder of his credit card it could be done. Or maybe ask if he would add you to his card, you would be able to do it that way too, and at the same time it will help your credit score since he has good credit. I just did a balance transfer, and the first thing they asked me was if I was the account holder of the creditcard that I was transferring funds to. But if you are not still sure, call his credit card company, and they would be able to tell you, but I’m pretty sure it is no. Only he can do balance transfers from his own credit cards that is in his name.

Kari– the transaction is a cash loan—29.5% interest. Why doesn’t he just get the cash and pay the card off… A colleratal loan would be much cheaper… Your playing musical credit cards and that don’t work…
